On the Bill Cunningham Show this afternoon, Congressman Boehner outlined three big objections to the Democrats’ government takeover of health care, including the fact that it will saddle small businesses with devastating new mandates and fines. Boehner says the Democrats’ bill would “kill the job market”:
BOEHNER: “Well you have $500 billion in Medicare cuts that are going to effect 25,000 seniors in my district directly. Secondly, you’ve got this employer mandate: you either provide health insurance or face a $2,000 fine per employee. It will raise the cost of employment at a time when American’s are asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ It’s going to kill the job market. And then you have the individual mandate: you either buy health insurance or we’re going to tax you. I think it’s unconstitutional, and not one time in our history have we ever told the American people ‘you have to buy something’.” [LISTEN HERE]
Boehner also talked about a new effort called “Code Red” that’s aimed at stopping the government health care takeover and starting over with common-sense proposals that will drive down costs for families and small businesses. Listen here:
BOEHNER: “We’ve put together what we call Operation Code Red. You can go to NRCC.org/CodeRed — it’s an effort to force all of these Democrats who are out there wobbling around, to force them out in the open as to where they’re going to be before they vote. We’re trying to keep the American people engaged in this fight. And Code Red will turn up the heat on 50 or 60 Democrats in the House because this is where the real fight’s going to be. They’re going to use this expedited procedure in the Senate to force this through on reconciliation and so I think the real fight is in the House. And I think we can win in the House and we can stop this but only if the American people help us.” [LISTEN HERE]

The battle against the current healthcare proposals is one we are counting on you to win. That the American people still oppose this bill in spite of the campaign of disinformation surrounding it should give you the confidence that you are on the correct side of the issue. Attacking the 5% profit against 82% efficient (payouts/premiums) earned by insurance companies like Wellpoint & UHI will not solve the problem. This is all available – transparent – in audited annual reports published on the web. Some of us can’t be fooled by the Democrats’ lumping the sale of subsidiaries into insurance company profits to fabricate a point.
More airtime should be given to the HSAs that Indiana has experimented wil and Mitch Daniels reported on in the WSJ.
