Boehner: “Doing Everything I Can to Prevent this Bill From Becoming Law”

In discussing the president’s government takeover of health care, Congressman Boehner told CNN today that “I’m doing everything I can to prevent this bill from becoming law.” Boehner backs a better bill that will actually lower health care costs for families and small businesses in Ohio facing high unemployment and staggering debt. But the Democratic bill, supported by Governor Strickland, would only make things worse. Watch Boehner here:

BOEHNER: “I’m doing everything I can to prevent this bill from becoming law.  Plain and simple.  We’ve offered our ideas.  We’ve asked the President to sit down and work with us.  They’ve refused all the way through the process. … Well, they had the summit.  We’ve offered our ideas and took a couple of Republican bread crumbs and put them on top of their 2,700-page bill.  That’s not good enough.  And so, what I’m doing is that I’m working with my colleagues to get the American people engaged in this fight.  I don’t have enough votes on my side of the aisle to stop the bill.  But I, along with the majority of the American people who are opposed to this, can stop this bill.  And we’re going to do everything we can to make it difficult for them, if not impossible, to pass this bill.”

What’s worse is that Democrats – desperate to ram their bill through Congress – have concocted a scheme whereby they will approve the “the Senate bill without voting on it.” Read more about this twisted scheme here courtesy The Daily Caller.

Recent surveys confirm what Boehner said: Democrats are defying the will of the American people as they push ahead with their bill. For example:

>> According to CNN, 58 percent of Americans are generally opposed to the current bill.

>> NPR found that a majority of Americans – 55 percent – oppose the current bill.

>> And a Quinnipiac survey shows that “[p]ublic support for health care reform continues to decline” with 54 percent of Americans mostly disapproving the current bill.

  2. Vicki Laughlin says:

Thank you for representing what the people want. I do not understand how this could become law w/o Congress voting How is this different from a dictator? Im a resident of Oklahoma and last time I checked the United States of AMERICA so I will stand with you and stand at attention and salute the flag unlike the resident living in the white house. God bless America! Keep doing the job the people elected you to do and again thank you for making our voice heard.

  3. Cornelia Callahan says:

I just want to say that I appreciate all your effort to thwart this so called Health Bill. Please continue . Im reminded of a scripture. “Be not weary in well doing for in due season you shall reap.” Keep up the good fight.

  4. Barbra Midkiff says:

Why, because you don’t care about human life. Maybe because you just don’t care about anything. If you had not fought this bill so much and and cut some those filibusters and said yea for a change thing would get done for the American people. The inerests groups and big business interest have you and your greed is harming what is right to get this economy on the right track. That’s all you doo is cry and scare the American people in submitting unto you. Talk about tyranny you rank among those as Hitler as a tyrant of special interest and greed.

  5. Jordan says:

Barbra, that might be the single dumbest comment I’ve ever read anywhere. And that’s saying something. For one, Boehner is in the House — there are no filibusters there. Two, spare us the “greed” and “big business nonsense unless you care to share what it is exactly that would “get this economy on the right track.” There are several links in this post alone that show exactly what Boehner and Republicans propose, and they have nothing to do with “big business.” And the Hitler reference? Pathetic. You and the liberal cronies you support refuse to listen to the American people and will pay for it this November.

  8. Anne Richards Sherbondy says:

Thank you Mr. Boehner for upholding the values that you and most Americans treasure. Thank you for your hard fight against Obama, Reid and Palosi – but please do not give up…. ! Somehow… God has to bring about and inspire more people in Congress today – to get this bill defeated. Our prayers are with you.

  9. PLEASE PLEASE keep fighting this – it is wrong and the majority of people do not want it – there has to be something that can be done!!!!

  10. Pam Marshall says:

Keep up the fight. This bill is a disaster financially, and will destroy the quality of health care we have now. Thank you for your efforts.

  11. SnuffyMD says:

Wishing you the best as you become the “New” Speaker of the House in November and take that office in January.

  12. Steve Barker says:

This “health care” bill is not about health care – it will drive up health care costs, reduce medicare coverage, and greatly reduce individual choice when it comes to obtaining the care they need. Ramming this bill through against the will of the people and without the house actually voting on the Senate version amounts to Marshall Law. This is about ideologues ignoring the constitution to implement their selfish socialist agenda in one big chunk, regardless of what it means to their political careers or the economic future of the country.

  13. Natasha Smith says:

Another message of support for you.
You were excellent on the news show Sunday morning- Crowley had it out for you but you were ate her lunch. She looked like she just wanted the show to be over so you could not score more points!-Thank you! Please do what you can to stop this madness of the healthcare bill !!!!!!

  14. Dee in CA says:

Representative Boehner, .. ‘Thank You’ for fighting for the American Patriots out here … We know it’s an uphill battle, since the ‘Majority Rules’ the House .. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi seems to think that ‘Americans want this healthcare’ … That is the most rediculous thing I’ve ever heard. 76% of Americans want to ‘Start Over’ …Pelsoi/Reid/Obama ‘Thugs’ will run our Country into a DITCH .. Taxes & higher premiums for 3-4 yrs, & NO BENEFITS till 2013-2014..MEDICAID will bankrupt many States… It’s the PROGRESSIVES that are pushing this ‘down our throats!” … Mr. Boehner, America has your back and we support every Republican who has pushed as hard too… November can’t come soon enough for many of us, and we WILL bring the ‘House’ back to the Republicans in 2010.. Pelosi will be voted OUT as well as Harry Reid … “You” will be the next ‘Speaker Of The House’ …Hang in there, we’re all praying … this week is going to be a ‘nail-biter’ for us too!! God Bless America and ‘God Bless’ our Troops!!

  15. ANN GREG KREHEL says:

Keep working for us, you are one of the few whose has enough gumption to stand up to this administration. McCain has been a big disappointment and I voted for him, he’s still trying to be everyone best friend and be Mr. Nice…you say it like it is. Good for you!!

  16. Susan Moger says:

I really appreciate your effort to stop this bill and if your efforts are in vain I will definitly take names and make them pay in November.

  17. Mrs.Joanne Byron says:

Mr. Boehner, PLEASE KEEP THE FIGHT on behalf of those of us who share your views, and want to keep our freedoms intact!! I would love to see you run for President, as you have such great leadership qualities! We will pray for you to be strengthened in the fight. It cannot be easy, but you have many supporters behind you, and who respect and appreciate what you are doing for us. Thank you so much for all you do.

  18. Mrs Bob Bruner says:

Keep up the fight and stop this madness of excess spending !!!

  19. Joan Johnson says:

Thank you, John, for all you do for not just our little section of Ohio, but for AMERICA. To have this massive bill passed without the Senate or House being allowed to vote is nothing short of TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION and will weaken the very foundation of our country. This must be stopped. If, God forbid, it goes through, both Pelosi and Obama MUST be impeached before they do further damage to this great country. Whether a person is Democrat or Republican, whether you are for health care reform or against this bill, you must stop and think AMERICAN first and see what the President is about to do to our country with this “Slaughter Solution” — passing the bill without any vote of any kind. This cannot be allowed to happen to our country and if we let it – if we let it – we should be ashamed of ourselves and don’t deserve the country or freedoms our forefathers set up for us.

  20. Stacey says:

    Thank you from Washington state!!

  21. Dale J Clune says:

    Mr Boehner,

    Keep up the good work!

Please urge everyone to contact those in Washington who are voting for the bill, to vote against it.
It is good to tell those that are voting against to to do so, but in order to effect change we need to get to those who are on the fence or have decided to vote for it.

Below is what I sent to Sherrod Brown.

Please convince others to do so as well.

Thank you again and God Bless!
    Sincerely,
    Dale J Clune

    Mr. Brown,

Why would you vote for something that 56% of Ohioans do not want? That is the question I asked of your office.

Do you know what response I got?

“Mr. Brown is voting on this because he feels this is what is best for you”

    What???

Mr. Brown you were voted into office to represent us. You are our voice. We did not elect you so that you could push your opinion and self serving agenda on us.

You took an oath to serve the people that you represent. Voting against what 56% of Ohioans want would seem to me to be political suicide unless you have some other hidden, self serving purpose. You are a public servant and when your job is performed properly, there is no more noble deed. When you take advantage of your position to further you own personal gain you really must take a look at your morals and judge for yourself if what you are doing is proper.

I beg you to do your job and represent Ohio with your NO vote on the health care reform bill. To do anything else is simply wrong. You must vote NO that is what the people of Ohio have expressed. We do not want this bill! If you choose to vote yes you clearly are telling Ohioans that you don’t care about them and that the only thing in Ohio that matters to Sherrod Brown is the I.

If that is true, I would hope that the people of Ohio would tell you that you don’t matter to them with their vote when re-election comes around.

MR. BROWN PLEASE DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND VOTE NO!!!

    God Bless you,

    Sincerely,

    Dale J Clune

  22. Groer Syck says:

Come November, I will be doing every thing I can to stop you. You do not represent me or the people of your district . You represent the insurance companies.

  23. I also would like to sincerely thank you for your efforts to help defeat this bill. It is going to cripple our healthcare system and we are going to lose some good docs from it. I would also like to comment on the wonderful staff you have in your DC office. They have always been very polite, answered questions and gone out of their way to get you information. While other Congresspeoples office put their phone on answering machine (Nancy Pelosi) for one your staff is always available and very polite!!! Please keep up the good fight – many people are for you, You may think about running for President yourself someday. The sooner the better we need to get Obama out as sonn as possible before he destroys our country!!

  24. Mary Spears says:

John, I am so sad of what is happening to this country. The politicians have taken our Constitution and changed it. Taken God our of the schools. We have a Muslim president that won’t honor our flag by putting his hand over his year. For the life of me I don’t know why he went through the sham of using A. Lincoln’s bible to be sworn in on.

Nancy Pelosi is really running this country. Why all the perks to get the Senators and whoever else, to get billions of dollars for THEIR state just for that signature.

We have millions of people out of work, losing their homes, bankers getting billions of dollars for doing WHAT?

Congressman don’t have to pay their taxes. Look how many people King Obama went through just to find one that had paid his taxes. If not for that they would continue.

From the news this morning it looks like the Democrats have bought all their votes. How can these people live with themselves. Oh that’s right they are members of Congress and can’t be touched.

That dude from Ohio Kunich, Cleveland or whatever, gets a call, and a free ride on Air Force one to talk to Obama. Little guy again that was bought. Wonder what Obama promised him?

Oh yeah, why in this day and age of birth control, etc. am I at the age of 68 having to pay for abortions when birth control is available?

Those that will reap the benefits of this health bill already know how to work the system.

They will force this bill through and we the little people have no say. Oh that’s right Nancy Pelosi says she never pays any attention to the polls ,,,wast of time and they lie.

Yes I am very sad. Sad to pass on this legacy to my grand children and future generations.
