House Democrats may skip the annual budget process, ignoring the voters and economists – more than 200 of them – who are calling on Washington to curb government spending to help create new jobs.
Ohio’s jobless rate is currently 11 percent. In order to get our economy moving again, a collection of 222 distinguished economists wrote to Congress arguing that “Washington needs to reign in the spending before we can see real economic growth.”
But Democrats aren’t listening.
According to The Hill, “Skipping a budget resolution this year, a move House Democrats are considering, would be unprecedented.” Democrat Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) says “It’s difficult to pass budgets in election years…” But analysis by the Congressional Research Service found that – election year or not – “[t]he House has never failed to pass an annual budget resolution since the current budget rules were put into place in 1974.”
And Democrats weren’t always so cavalier about the budget process. In 2006, Hoyer said passing a budget is “the most basic responsibility of governing.” And House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-SC) said, “If you can’t budget, you can’t govern.”
On the other hand, under Congressman Boehner’s leadership, Republicans have repeatedly offered serious budget proposals aimed at curbing spending and getting control of the debt.
For example, also in 2006 – just months after Boehner was elected to serve as Majority Leader – the House of Representatives approved the first budget in several years that held the line on federal spending.
And last year, Republicans outlined an alternative to the president’s $3.6 trillion budget – a solution that would have curbed spending, simplified the tax code, and helped Congress get control of the debt.
Boehner has also actively promoted ways of working with the president to cut spending – today – by offering to force an up-or-down vote on wasteful spending. The Washington Times recently editorialized:
“House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio and Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia wrote to the president in February to suggest an elegant and simple way to save money. Mr. Obama’s fiscal year 2011 budget recommended the elimination of 47 discretionary programs and a reduction in spending for 26 others, for a net savings of $10.3 billion. While this may be a paltry amount in comparison to the total debt, it is at least a start – but the savings would not begin until Oct. 1. The Republican leaders simply said that we could take those savings right now by using the president’s rescission authority. …
“On Tuesday, the Republican leaders repeated their recommendation, including a list of $375 billion in proposed rescissions. ‘Respectfully, Mr. President, if you have determined that you will not use your presidential rescissions authority to force Congress to make spending reductions, the American people deserve to know why,’ they wrote. “
Congressman Boehner is fighting to curb government spending and help small businesses create new jobs right here in Ohio. If you’d like to get involved in his fight, click here and become a Boehner Campaigner today!

Dear Mr Boehner,
We need the Republican party to go back to its roots. But mostly we need the party to have a backbone. Do not worry if the Democrats say we are the party of no , because most of us want you to be the party of Oh Hell No!!! I do not want anyone passing anything through congress that the Democrats can use to pass on their agenda through reconciliation., no more ,never again! So please vote against cap and tax, finance reform, which by the way is a joke, Freddie and Fannie are not included. NO MORE BAIL OUTS, NOT EVEN THE STATES! They made their beds they can lay in it! Because we have to show the liberal left Democrats that their policies do not work! If they are not made uncomfortable then they will not learn! I am proud to say I am from Texas right now, we have a common sense state government and even though we have had some job loses we are better off then the rest of the U.S.. That is because of Rick Perry making sure we did not over reach and we have a rainy day fund to help us through hard times! I wish you would put out a graph on how states are doing in job growth and in taxes and unemployment by the states that are considered either blue or red! I think this will help the Republican party come election time! Please stand beside Arizona ! I would like to see the Republican party convention held there. It is time to start enforcing our laws and securing our borders!!! SO PLEASE BE THE PARTY OF HELL NO AND STOP THIS SOCIALIST TAKE OVER FROM THE DEMOCRATS!!!!
Sincerely,
Rebecca Trousdale
Thank you for sending this. Your actions show dedication and good judgment. Have you considered running for president? I think you’d make a dynamite one.
I am so worried about the Socialist oppression we are facing.
Why are the czars in the White House allowed to stay?
Its not just the budget or lack thereof that bothers me but the amount of spending that has gone on with or without a budget. Now comes the American Power Act/Climate Bill/Cap and Trade.
This bill is the mother of all budget busters. Let me know what I can do to help defeat it.
I am in OHIO and I am a member of the Portage County Tea Party. We have a strong candidate to run against Tim Ryan. His name is Jim Graham. We like him. Please help him.
