The president visited northeast Ohio yesterday to tout his trillion-dollar “stimulus” claiming that it was responsible for a local plant choosing to expand. There’s only one problem: the plant itself says it would have expanded regardless of the “stimulus.” Third Base Politics blog has the story:
“Today at a factory in Ohio, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland joined President Obama in celebrating the fruits of the federal stimulus – an expansion of a manufacturing plant in Youngstown. …
“That’s all well and good, except for one extremely massive detail. The factory expansion would have happened without the massive donation of taxpayer dollars. …
“In other words, Americans gave away $19 million to a French-owned company in exchange for absolutely nothing at all. They were going to expand their factory anyway.”
In fact, according to the Youngstown Vindicator, the president of the plant said “‘the project would have proceeded’ without the money” from the so-called “stimulus.”
Now any time a business is expanding in Ohio and hiring new workers, it’s great news. But the fact that Democrats are so eager to attribute any positive news to their jobs-killing agenda only adds to their growing credibility gap.
You see, Democrats have repeatedly promised one thing but delivered something else. Here are a few examples where that credibility gap continues to grow – and where Congressman John Boehner and Republicans have offered better solutions to the challenges facing families and small businesses:
>> PROMISE: Democrats promised that a government takeover of health care would create new jobs immediately, lower costs, and let Americans keep the coverage they like.
>> REALITY: Almost every day we hear of businesses getting socked by ObamaCare’s dramatic, jobs-killing taxes and mandates. Moreover, a bombshell report by the Department of Health & Human Services said ObamaCare will increase health care costs, and analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said it will cost taxpayers billions more than advertised. John is fighting to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common-sense solutions that will actually lower costs for families and small businesses.>> PROMISE: Democrats promised that the trillion-dollar “stimulus” would keep the unemployment rate below 8 percent.
>> REALITY: Today the unemployment is 9.9 percent nationally and 11 percent in Ohio. A group of 222 distinguished economists wrote Boehner and Congressional leaders arguing that cutting government spending is the way to boost our economy. But Democrats aren’t bothering with a budget, robbing Americans of a chance to cut spending and create new jobs. John has repeatedly outlined ways to cut spending now.>> PROMISE: Democrats promised that their financial regulatory reform bill would hold accountable those responsible for our economic crisis.
>> REALITY: Democrats have no plan to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the giant government mortgage companies that caused our economic crisis by handing out loans to people who couldn’t afford them – and are now on life support, kept afloat by beleaguered taxpayers. John backs a plan that reforms Fannie and Freddie, and protects taxpayers from ever again having to pick up the tab for bad bets made on Wall Street.>> PROMISE: Democrats promised that they would lead the most open and honest Congress in history.
>> REALITY: Speaker Pelosi and her liberal allies have repeatedly written bills behind closed doors and forced votes within hours of unveiling them to the public. John wants to give Americans at least 72 hours to read bills before a vote, outlaw “phantom amendments,” open the powerful Rules Committee to CSPAN cameras, and more.
All of this has led to survey after survey showing Americans opposed to the key initiatives Democrats have rammed through Congress. For example, a majority of Ohioans support repealing the government takeover of health care. Surveys have shown a majority of voters agree with Congressman Boehner that the “stimulus” isn’t working. Americans overwhelmingly support efforts to make Congress more open and accountable, rejecting the closed-door backroom deals being struck by Democrats. And more.

Our President, would not Know the truth if it slapped him in the face, he has done nothing but lie to the American people ever since he took office….I can list alot of them but don’t have the time to write a book…and most people know them anyway, we would be fools to believe anything that comes out of his mouth.
Why are they giving so much stimulus money to a foreign company? What about all the American companies that are going out of business? I thought the stimulus was about rebuilding America, but I dont why why I should be surprised that Obama lied again.
