Boehner, Republicans Unveil American Energy Act

Led by Congressman Boehner, Republicans in Congress today unveiled the American Energy Act, an “all of the above” energy plan designed to lower fuel costs, help create jobs, and promote a cleaner environment. Boehner said:

“The House Republicans’ American Energy Act – not the Democrats’ national energy tax – is the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The Democrats’ national energy tax will be paid by anyone who drives a car, buys an American-made product, or flips on a light switch. That means a yearly average of $3,100 in higher energy costs for middle-class families – and fewer jobs for American workers. Instead of establishing a new tax that will only drive prices up further, the American Energy Act offers better solutions to bring them down. It does β€˜all of the above’ by producing more American energy in an environmentally safe way, promoting the use of alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions, such as clean coal and nuclear, and encouraging increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.”

More specifically, the American Energy Act supported by Boehner will:

  • Lift energy restrictions on ANWR, the Outer Continental Shelf, and oil shale in the Mountain West;
  • Renew America’s commitment to clean and emissions-free nuclear energy by establishing a national goal of ordering100 new nuclear reactors over the next twenty years;
  • Invest in renewable and alternative sources of energy using revenue generated by the sale of energy leases; and
  • Encourage conservation through proven tax incentives.

A Fox News report highlighted the bill and its call for 100 new emissions-free nuclear power plants:

“The GOP proposal, dubbed the American Energy Act, sets a goal of nearly doubling the nation’s nuclear power infrastructure by building 100 new plants in the next 20 years — calling for streamlined construction regulations, additional tax incentives and lower trade barriers for utility companies.

“The bill also focuses on more off-shore domestic exploration of oil, lifts barriers to government purchase of alternatives like oil shale and tar sands, and establishes a trust fund to encourage the development of other new energy sources.”

    Now that’s “change” we can believe in…

    I like what you have to say when I see you on FOX NEWS. I wish you could move to California and straighten these sick puppies up. I am surrounded, and unlike General Custer, I wake up to the same nightmare everyday. I encourage you to take on a bigger role in our Government, President would be good. Please talk in a manner that gives America a sense that there really is some leadership on the Conservative side of the fence. Watch some Ronald Reagan Speeches to get an example of a catchy style of speaking. Use your own content of course because you’re on the right path.God bless you and yours.

    Where can we read the proposed Bill?
    Get it out so people will have more than a measly 72 hours to read it and spread the word around.

    Thank you for exposing the Democratic Congressman from New York’s inability to “guarantee” anything he or his friends say on any given day~!

    The Williston basin, a band of oil reserves stretches from N. Dak thru S Dak, Mont, Wyo and Colorado and possibly other states. the Canadians have wanted to help us process and pipeline it into Illinios and Oklahoma for the past two decades. I have a hunch those in power have stalled this all along. You are absolutely right on track Mr Boehner. Keep up the good work.

    We are being tested. If you lead now, it may not be too late.
    Here’s the article: ‘Republican party adopts platform of rapid, comprehensive adoption of carbon free power’ ‘Republican leaders announced that they are supporting a massive transfer of funds from foreign military to installation of carbon free energy, transmission lines and support for energy companies to retrain workers, redesign plants, and gear up to meet the energy needs of the 21st century. ‘ Congressman Boehner was applauded for his courageous stand. ” The science is clear,” he said. ‘Americans can save the world from catastrophe; we have the technology, we have the leadership. American entrepreneurs will jump to this challenge and in one decade we will stop 90% of fossil fuel burning in the US and provide the rest of the world with the example and technology to do the same.
    Global average temperature rise of 4 to 9oF and sea level rise of 7feet by 2100 is our future unless we stop burning fossil fuels now. Hundreds of billions a year in climate related damages will be our loss unless we switch now to solar, wind, geothermal energy.
    Every new well drilled for oil or gas, every new coal plant built is a crime against humanity and a sin destroying Creation. ”

    Time for courage. Wouldn’t you get treated if the doctor said you would die in 20 years unless you got treated now?? Or would you just listen to your barber who says you look healthy and delay treatment until it is too late? This is not a political issue; it is a moral one..
