While in Ohio last week, President Obama said that his jobs-killing agenda had “run into a ‘buzz saw’.” Today, on the day of President Obama’s State of the Union address, Congressman Boehner wrote a post for BigGovernment.com outlining what that “buzz saw” really was:
“Last Friday, on a visit to my home state of Ohio, the President complained about this ‘buzzsaw’ of opposition his health care bill faced. But what you call a buzzsaw, Mr. President, I call the American people. They’re saying ‘enough is enough’ to this big-government, job-killing agenda. And they’re asking ‘where are the jobs?’ So we’re going to listen to the President, but we’re also going to continue to hold him accountable and offer our better solutions.”
The president has tried to lift his party’s fortunes by talking more about “jobs” and waging a “phony war on Wall Street.”But Boehner argues that President Obama’s problem isn’t his message, it’s his jobs-killing policies, and that if he truly wants to help boost our economy and create new jobs he’ll make more than a rhetorical shift – he’ll scrap his current agenda and start working together with Republicans. Here are some excerpts:
>> ON THE PRESIDENT’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS: “House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said the test at Wednesday night’s speech will be whether Obama will offer merely a ‘rhetorical pivot, or are they really going to do something?’” (State of the Union speech preparations under way, CNN)
>> ON THE PRESIDENT’S JOBS-KILLING AGENDA: “‘I think what the American people want to see is a commitment from the President that he really is going to pivot to stopping the job-killing agenda and to work with Republicans in a bipartisan way as he promised during the campaign to get our economy going again and to be able to satisfy the American people’s continuing question, ‘where are the jobs?’,’ Boehner told reporters.” (Boehner – President has a lot to prove tonight, Washington Examiner)
>> ON BETTER SOLUTIONS BY REPUBLICANS: “House Minority Leader John Boehner will be ‘live blogging’ his response to the address and he won’t be holding his punches. ’President Obama’s rhetoric is often detached from reality, so it’s important there be a place Americans can go to get the facts about his job-killing agenda,’ said Boehner of West Chester. ‘We’ll also be using this live blog to discuss Republicans’ better solutions to the challenges working families and small business owners are facing.’” (Boehner readies rapid SOTU response, Cincinnati Enquirer)
