This week, 546,000 Ohioans sent an unequivocal message by submitting a petition to the Ohio Secretary in support of the Health Care Freedom Amendment, which would exempt Ohioans from the unconstitutional “individual mandate” in ObamaCare. Signatories include West Chester resident Congressman John Boehner. The Columbus Dispatch has the details:
“Leaders of tea party groups say they have collected enough signatures to qualify a constitutional amendment for the Nov. 8 ballot that would exempt Ohio from a key provision of last year's federal health-care overhaul.
“If the Ohio Health Care Freedom Amendment is enacted, it will forbid the federal, state and local governments from mandating that Ohio residents buy health insurance. This mandate was a major part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, frequently derided as ‘Obamacare’ by critics....
“Outlining the health-care amendment to reporters, Thompson said that it would do more than get rid of the federal mandate to buy insurance; it also would prevent state or local governments from intervening in the health-care market. He said it would stop government from ‘shutting down the private health-care market, or regulating it to deprive people of choices.’”
Nancy Pelosi famously said Democrats would have to pass ObamaCare so we could “find out what’s in it.” Now Ohioans and people across America are finding out, and all they see are bad news and broken promises:
- OBAMACARE BURDENING STATES’ BUDGETS: “States already can't win. They've been shifting funding from education, safety and all other programs to pay for their share of Medicaid and Medicare, which is often the largest chunk of a state's budget. Many states have found themselves in the position of cutting benefits for patients and lowering reimbursement rates to providers, which likely will cause more doctors to turn away Medicaid patients, as rates don't come close to covering their costs.” (Editorial, “Worse and Worse,” Columbus Dispatch, 6/26/11)
- YOU CAN’T KEEP IT: 30 PERCENT OF EMPLOYERS WOULD DUMP EMPLOYEES INTO OBAMACARE EXCHANGES AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE: “US health care reform sets in motion the largest change in employer-provided health benefits in the post–World War II era. While the pace and timing are difficult to predict, McKinsey research points to a radical restructuring of employer-sponsored health benefits following the 2010 passage of the Affordable Care Act.” (McKinsey Quarterly Report, June 2011)
In the first days of the new Congress, House Republicans unanimously voted to repeal the President’s job-crushing health care law – and they’ll continue to do everything in their power to repeal Washington Democrats’ $2.6 trillion government takeover of our health care system in the months ahead.
No Obama Care
